Business Process Design

Process Design encompasses both the identification of existing processes (current state) and the design of "to-be" processes (future state). Areas of focus include:

  • process work flow
  • alerts, notifications and escalations
  • standard operating procedures
  • service level agreements
  • task hand-over

A solid design reduces the number of problems over the lifetime of the process. Whether or not existing processes are considered, the aim of this step is to ensure that a correct and efficient theoretical design is prepared. A workflow is a model to represent real work for further assessment, e.g., for describing a reliably repeatable sequence of operations. More abstractly, a workflow is a pattern of activity enabled by a systematic organization of: resources defined roles and information flows, into a work process that can be documented, learned and implemented throughout the organization.
